Box braids are my favourite, it is when I started this blog I had braids I loved. After asking on the blogs facebook, Box Braids or Twists, it was BOX BRAIDS THAT WON
They gave me so much life.
It is however pivotal to know how to prepare your hair for the protective styling, relaxed texlaxed or natural the rules are all the same. While protective hairstyles are a good idea to protect hair, they have to be done after real hair is protected. Here is how…
Poor knowledge of such information has caused my hair to break a LOT. Before you hit the salon make sure you are covered.
Here you go:
Prepoo/Basing – Prepooing is oiling or basing the scalp with oil to prevent damage from harsh chemicals. Before a relaxer, my mom would base my scalp with TOCOIL and one can do that before a shampoo and heat treatment.
Olive Oil/Coconut Oil on the scalp works well for me…overnight before the chemical treatment or shampoo. SEE it is nothing new.
Washday Shampoo – Use a sulfate free shampoo or add OIL to your shampoo (avocado oil is amazing) to make it moisturing.
Conditioner – This is the most important part. You can deep condition with protein mayonnaise (if the hair is damaged or dried and need extra strength) or use ordinary conditioner. The key is to make sure you give the conditioning part the most time. MASSAGE that hair! Make sure it is soft.
Use a cap and leave on until you arrive at salon and make sure your hair gets the softness and detangles that hair from root to tip.
Rinse and airdry: Rinse thoroughly with COLD COLD water to seal in the moisture so it does not vapour. Always comb with widetooth comb.
Now never blowdry hair without oiling it. A light oil or for kinkier hair shea butter whip on very wet hair… and blow dry your hair when it has a cream in the hair on the strands not scalp!
PERSONALLY….I use whichever is available… curl la la is a good moisturiser by AUNT JACKIES alongside my coconut oil (half a teaspoon) and same amount of shea butter mixture the blow dry will have beautiful hair out come.
Use heat sparingly as well
