Ethical fashion in Zimbabwe – Mustard Seed Africa

Gail Mawocha is a fashion genius in Zimbabwe. While most designers are lamenting about them not making money, second hand and imports… Gail advocates for grassroot level producers of fashion!

Mustard Seed Africa has had shows in Zimbabwe – Rural to Ramp and now a store at CABS centre at Bond Shopping Complex in Mt Pleasant suburb in Harare.

What we saw the shop was absolutely amazing!

What is amazing is the wide array of clothing, home decor, jewellery from around Africa.

Local designers have worked with them, Joyce Chimanye of Zuvva and Vongai Gogwe from Vonsdesigns.

The women involved in creating these products are very important to sustain this shop and keep fair trade alive, despite the capitalistic way of looking at fashion.

There was a brand developed using beeswax and other fragrant ingredients for the SHELELA skinbalm. Absolutely divine

The shop also carries Southern African literature, it feels like HIFA fleamarket in there daily, handmade only

It is definitely the best shop to find handmade and unique fashion pieces at a price that is affordable for what you are getting in terms of value.

The neckpieces are just amazing stuff

You should stop by and experience what beauty I saw for myself.
