On the 1st of September, was the closing evening of Zimbabwe Fashion Week. I was excited and nervous at the same time. This Fashion Week was great and I was sad that I have to wait another year for the next fashion week.
The Shows: Starting with the young hip brands of Faith Wear and The Tribe Called fashion shows. Edgy fashions that I could have ripped off the models because of how much I coveted the clothes and styling done.
The evening was finished off with the high fashion brands of Bisma Ahmed, Maita Marimo and David Tlale. The three shows were artistic with Malaika Mushandu (Who was my junior in high school at Chishawasha, she was so quiet and humble am so proud of her!) guest appearance for BZma clothing and Pokello Nare (Shoe-nista of Harare) for Maita Marimo’s show. The David Tlale Show had original music and beautiful pieces of the Resort collection he showed at Mercedes Benz Cape Town Fashion Week “I’m Not Coloured, I am Colour”, he wasn’t in attendance as he is preparing for New York Fashion Week.
The Awards: For the first time ZFW team arranged the Zimbabwe Fashion Awards. The best female model was a Chipo, very Alek Wek look and the male models were Jonathan and Munyaradzi; they get the chance to audition for the AFI Africa Fashion Week. Young designer who won the mentorship opportunity was Kim Masimbe. Best designers who have the chance to showcase in Johannesburg were Bisma, Intisaar, Joyce, Rumbidzai and Maita. To make it all special for me was when I won the award for Top Fashion Blogger of the Year.
Black Trash clothing had an auction for their clothing and then that was the end of yet another great fashion event by the ZFW Team. Well done Priscilla Chigariro, “WAGONA!”
